Courtesy Boat Inspection

Chair: Marc Restuccia

The Courtesy Boat Inspection Program is the first line of defense in protecting our lake from invasive aquatic species.  Toddy Pond has both paid and volunteer inspectors inspecting boats and providing information to boaters from early May through early September. This statewide DEP program is supported by Toddy Pond Association as well as private and public funding.

Invasive Plant Patrol

Chair: Robin Yurkevicz
Lucy Leaf

Help protect Toddy by becoming a Plant Patroller.

The IPP 101 training is now available on-line through LSM, but you don’t need certification to sign up for a sector. We offer a personal tutorial. Email robin@toddypond.org if you would like an on-water introduction to the plants near your dock, or if you see anything that looks suspicious to you.

Water Quality Committee

Phil Roberts

Each summer from June through September Toddy Pond water is tested for clarity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen. The testing is done at the deepest spot on Toddy with a depth of approximately 125 feet. It is located about 500 feet north of Long Point. A probe is lowered into the water. Starting at the surface, readings are taken every meter down to approximately 30 meters. This procedure measures the water temperature and oxygen in the water.

Water clarity is tested the same day using a device known as a Secchi Disk. This disk is lowered into the water until the white of the disk can no longer be seen. The depth readings for clarity become less as the water temperature increases during the summer. The depth readings for clarity in the fall become more as the water temperature decreases.Wind and bad weather can sometime interfere with the testing date so the next possible day is chosen to proceed.

We welcome new and interested members to our committee.

Dam Committee

Chair: Marc Restuccia
Brian Smith

The TPA Dam Committee serves the purpose of monitoring and keeping the Toddy Pond community informed of developments involving the Toddy Pond dam. It is important to note that the dam and accompanying water rights are privately owned and the TPA does not have any ownership stake, control, or operational responsibility for the dam.

The most common concerns expressed involving the dam have to do with changing lake water levels. The biggest influencing factor over the water level  is ‘Mother Nature.’

Watch for a feature article on the Toddy Pond dam in the next edition of the Toddy Ponder newsletter.

If you have questions or information on the dam, please send us an e-mail to toddymail@toddypond.org

We welcome new and interested members to our committee.

2025 Loon Count Results

Based on our recent survey of the membership we have decided to create a Loon Committee! Mark Pokras has graciously agreed to help us connect our efforts on Toddy to what’s going on in the rest of Maine and nationally.

If you know of any loon nests or loon pairs or if you are interested in surveying for loon nests or if you have a boat that you would consider using for a day with fellow TP loon watchers to survey the pond, please email me at leafan@comcast.net

Our committee welcomes new members and their input!  We are always looking for volunteer help and ideas from the membership. We work to insure continuation of the Toddy Pond Association in our stewardship and community role.  Together we work  on our  website, facebook page, mailings, newsletters  and other community relations such as the BBQ and annual meeting.

Development & Fundraising

The Toddy Pond Association relies on member dues and gifts to fund our important activities.  With the rising costs for our Courtesy Boat Inspection program, newsletter, and other important functions, it has become necessary to look to other sources to augment our funding.  This year, we’ll be exploring possible charitable grants, local business sponsors, and other potential venues to help cover our costs.  Suggestions from our membership are welcome.
